Orozco Without Borders

Gabriel-Orozco-01-thumb.jpeg

Gabriel Orozco is a Mexican artist born in 1962, whose father is also a mural painter and art professor. Growing up, Orozco attended many art exhibitions where he overheard many conversations about art and politics. Unlike his father, Orozco wanted to leave politics out of his art and did not want to be an "opinionator."

Orozco later moved to Madrid where he went to school and attended the the Circulo de Bellas Artes. Since then, Orozco has traveled to many places and has lived in Berlin, Mexico City, and New York. His travel is an important part of his art and often spends several months of the year in Mexico and France despite living in New York. Orozco says he works better on vacations, which is why he takes a lot of them. We can see the artist's dependence on travel in some of his pieces such as "Until You Find Another Yellow Schwalbe"
