Inspiration and
Recreation

One of Orozco's well-known pieces, Horses Running Endlessly, depicts a chessboard with more squares and more pieces. Something different about this chessboard though, is that all of the pieces are knights. If you look closely, we can see that there are four different shades of horses and squares. Orozco, not wanting to become political with his art, represents almost a sense of equality as all of the different horses mingle amongst each other and there are no queens or pawns. Orozco didn't want to become political with his art, but I believe his piece does have a political message about society and its rulers. Whether they be kings and queens or small pawns, Orozco shows the kind of society we would be without.

Caps Running Endlessly?

I chose to recreate this piece because it almost brought me a sense of calm. All of the pieces were the same and I wanted to recreate this demonstration of equality with a more digital turn. I used my iPad to display a typical chessboard with different colored marker caps on top as the game pieces. Rather than specific chess pieces, I used these different colored caps to again demonstrate that balanced social world that seems so peaceful.
